Rediscovering Our Shared Purpose: The Path to ‘Ummah’ Unity

Ummah is a name bearer of unity, brotherhood, support, and the shared purpose of surrendering ourselves to Allah SWT. And yet, the world today has turned contemporary, with the vastness of it painting disunity, religious discord, and violence that destroys innocent lives. And thus, I ask the question: what can bring us back together? Where is our ‘ummah unity’?

Surpassing political structures, the question delves into the very heart of our faith and collective identity.

Community as a Medium for Unity: Qur’an and Hadith

The Quran reminds us in Surah Al-Anbiya (21:92):

إِنَّ هَٰذِهِ أُمَّتُكُمْ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً وَأَنَا رَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُونِ

Inna hādhihī ummatukum ummatan wāhidatan wa anā Rabbukum fa’budūn

“Indeed, this community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord, so worship Me.”

Grounding the command of togetherness and oneness, the verse expresses the importance of unity in our ummah, and that we should not be influenced by acts of division.

Similarly, the hadith of our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW, narrated by the Sahaba An-Nu’man ibn Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him), also focuses on the interconnectedness of the ummah.

Mathalu al-mu’minīna fī tawāddihim wa tarāhumihim wa ta’āṭufihim, mathalu al-jasadi, idhā ishtakā minhu ‘uḍwun, tadā’ā lahu sā’iru al-jasadi bis-sahari wal-ḥummá.

“The believers, in their mutual kindness, compassion, and sympathy, are just like one body. When one limb suffers, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever.” – (Sahih Muslim)

Local Connectivity Leads to Global Unity

Disunity poses a huge challenge in a world divided by barriers such as gender, race, religion, and even geography. And the solution to that challenge might be as simple as the local community. This is where the Ummah app helps.

The people of a local community, with the help of the app, can live, interact, and organise. Through this, the local communities become strong, interconnected, and are more aware of one’s needs.

And hence, we build a stronger community.

The Ummah app not only works locally, but globally. So through connecting local communities, we can unite our ummah and broaden our faith.

Key Features of the Ummah App

The following features help with getting the community to connect and turn into a digital reality:

  • Interactive Event Map: The interactive event map helps in reducing isolation by centralizing all local Islamic events, lectures, and even daily announcements about the specific locality.
  • Community Feed: Where a space is provided for discussions and planning, allowing the members of the locality to communicate and build fellowship.
  • Profile: The ‘profile’ feature helps in building stronger local connections by making the community members active participants of the ummah rather than being passive recipients of information.

And these are only a few features. The Ummah app with help with getting the community to connect and turn into a digital reality by addressing the global ummah’s needs through its various features.

By strengthening our brotherhood, we return to the core, choose unity over disunity and focus on sharing barakah by utilising the modern tools of the Ummah App.
